Anthem-WellPoint Merger Gets Blue Cross and Blue Shield Association Approval

INDIANAPOLIS, and THOUSAND OAKS, Calif., March 23 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/

-- Anthem, Inc. (NYSE: ATH) and WellPoint Health Networks Inc. (NYSE: WLP), today announced that the Blue Cross and Blue Shield Association has granted unanimous approval of the transfer of WellPoint's Blue licenses in connection with the pending merger of the two companies.

This is another milestone in the completion of the transaction, which the companies continue to expect to close by mid-year.

The transaction is subject to approval by state regulatory agencies and the shareholders of both companies. Dates for the shareholder meetings have not yet been set.
